Yamaha EF6300iSDE Review

Yamaha EF6300iSDE ReviewYamaha calls their new EF6300iSDE portable inverter generator the most powerful inverter ever – and we believe them!

For an inverter that brings massive power traditionally reserved for conventional backup generators, together with a pure sine waveform output that can run everything from power-hungry well pumps to the most delicate electronics and computer equipment, there is really no competition. In addition, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE brings a suite of other handy features, like low-noise operation and fantastic fuel efficiency, that most consumers will appreciate. But what are the downsides, if any.

Please keep reading as we take a detailed look at this inverter generator so you can see for yourself whether it’s worth your money.

Engine Displacement & Power Output

Whereas most inverters are sufficient only for relatively low-demand appliances, or can only operate a single larger appliance at a time, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE really does earn the title of most powerful inverter on the market. Specifically, this beast comes with a honking 357 cc OHV, Air-Cooled, four-stroke engine that can churn out a total of 6,300 surge (starting) and 5,500 rated (running) watts.

Yamaha EF6300iSDE Portable Inverter GeneratorThis is big time power – power that can run very greedy appliances like furnace blowers, sump pumps, large AC units and other energy-hogs. Consequently, compared to most other inverters, this one truly provides enough juice for meaningful home backup power in the event of outages. But more than just providing lots of electricity, it generates a very “clean” form of power that is ideal for sensitive electronics like home computers, audio systems and flat screen TVs. As such, you really do get the best of both worlds with the EF6300iSDE.

Runtime & Fuel Type

Despite being able to hold its own with large conventional portable generators, the EF6300iSDE sips fuel from its modest 4.5-gallon gas tank. In fact, this generator is so efficient that you can run it continuously at 1/4 of maximum load for approximately 13 hours. This is a great runtime, especially if you want to have the unit run overnight while you sleep.

Start Type

We didn’t expect a simple pull start with a generator of this caliber, and we weren’t disappointed. The EF6300iSDE features the latest and greatest in electric starting, with a Transistor Controlled Ignition and automatic choke for hassle-free and reliable cranking.

Yamaha EF6300iSDE - 120V and 240V capability!Power Panel & Outlets

The EF6300iSDE also differs from other inverters in featuring both 120V and 240V outputs. It includes two (2) 20 amp GFCI outlets, one 30 amp twist lock outlet, and one 120/240V 4-prong outlet.

The panel also features a nice power meter and hour meter.

Noise Level

Again, notwithstanding its massive power generation, this is a relatively quiet generator rated to produce between 58 and 64 decibels of sound during normal operation. This is equivalent to low human conversation. Obviously, the lower the throttle (and load), the quieter this unit is. Given this low-noise feature, the Yamaha EF6300iSDE makes a great power source for tight urban settings or campgrounds.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE is compact, but still weighs about 200 pounds dry.Size & Portability

No 6,000+ watt generator will be tiny, but we think most users will be pleasantly surprised at the relative compactness of this model, which measures 30.7 inches in length, 24.3 inches in width, and 27.2 inches in height. Fortunately, the rolling casters make its hefty 200-pound dry weight manageable as well.

Product Warranty

The¬†EF6300iSDE is covered by a fairly generous 3 year limited manufacturer’s warranty.

Price and Value

Inverter generators are not cheap, especially high quality models. And Yamaha (along with Honda) are widely-regarded as the best you can get. This is why the EF6300iSDE’s current price tag (hovering around $3,800 shipped) is far from surprising. Indeed, when you consider the huge power this model generates and its overall build quality and feature set, it’s a darn good deal, and significantly less expensive than a Honda inverter, watt for watt.

The Yamaha EF6300iSDE User Reviews & Ratings!Yamaha EF2400iSHC Reviews & Ratings

To date, this inverter has earned a very impressive satisfaction rating of 4.7 out of 5.0 stars on amazon.com. Among other things, users simply glow about this model’s tremendous power, fuel efficiency and very quiet operation. They also appreciated the quick and reliable electric starting mechanism, 120V/240V capability and overall quality construction. Indeed, the only negative comments were aimed at the compact design that made getting at some parts for servicing slightly challenging.

Concluding Thoughts & Opinions

Buy the Yamaha EF6300iSDE!Budget permitting, we can see no valid downside to the Yamaha EF6300iSDE Portable Inverter Generator.

This thing can pretty much do it all: it’s a great backup power source for the home; it can power a construction site and numerous high-draw tools; and it can run your most sensitive electronics without fear of damage/malfunction. Moreover, it runs unusually quietly – especially for a generator that produces this kind of power, making it perfect for recreating or using in urban settings. It’s also highly fuel efficient, thanks in part to a state-of-the-art “smart throttle” system. Finally, this is a very well-made generator by one of the leading manufacturers today. And unlike its rival, Honda, this generator will cost you much less watt for watt.
